Human Body Measurement Science — For Every Body!

A rank, not a rating
A percentile is a rank, not a rating. That single sentence does more work than anything else on this page, because almost every misunderstanding that follows a session with the male size percentile estimator comes from reading a rank as though it were a score. Eight Decades of Evidence
In 1942 a researcher measured a group of men and published the numbers. In 2021 another researcher did the same thing. Between those two dates sit seventy-three more studies, more than fifty-five thousand men, and one of the more unexpected claims in modern body measurement science.

Same Bodies, Different Rulers
Two peer-reviewed studies. One centimetre between them. The temptation is to pick a winner — but the gap was never about the men. It was about where the ruler started, who was holding it, and who agreed to be counted. A patient walk through the decisions that make a published average, and a checkli…

A rank, not a rating
Most men close the calculator more confused than they opened it — not because the math is wrong, but because nobody explained what a percentile is measuring. It is a position in a queue of other measurements, and it inherits every decision the researchers made before you ever typed a number in. Her…

Method Before Measurement
There is a version of this subject that circulates as a colored world map, and a version that exists in the published literature — and they are not the same subject. Robert Vance opens the region-by-region section with the framework everything else depends on: what a measured average is actually bu…
